"You Were Clearly Faded": The Early Days of Clearly Faded

In 2012, Clearly Faded was created as a nightlife blog, founded by Jason Klotz and Sharif Shaltout. Together the pair documented Atlantic City’s nightclub scene by capturing the raw aesthetic of the nightlife through their lens. Over time, they began promoting the brand more heavily by using business cards with the catchy phrase "You Were Clearly Faded" to promote their website. Once on the website people at the clubs and parties could see and download the photos they captured as a reminder of their wild night - people loved it!

However, it wasn't until they created and released their first t-shirt designs for Clearly Faded that Klotz and Sharif fully realized the potential of their brand and how it could serve as a platform to help the cannabis and skateboarding community feel creatively and accurately represented.

From Clubbing to Cannabis: Discovering Our True Calling

As Clearly Faded began to gain traction across the east coast, Jason and Sharif became more and more motivated to provide party-goers with a tangible piece of the Clearly Faded brand to take home with them. This passion led to the creation of some of their best-selling designs, such as 'Hello I Am', 'Faded Bull', 'Wimpy', and the iconic 'Eli Tag' Clearly Faded logo.

However, at just 24 years old, Klotz realized that the brand's potential exceeded the duo's initial vision of starting a nightlife blog. Klotz decided to shift the brand's focus to building a community on social media, specifically Instagram, where he launched the official @clearlyfaded account. The brand quickly established a strong presence on the platform due to its authenticity and gained over 12,000 followers.

Now known for its representation of cannabis culture and skateboard culture, Clearly Faded showcased a lifestyle they knew best; One filled with weed references, skate clips, and funny commentary on the community. As the years passed, the founders and the brand matured, and the brand's narrative shifted to focus on how they could positively impact the communities they represented and served.

Designing for Change: How Clearly Faded is Shaping The Cannabis Community

Currently, at Clearly Faded, we are not only committed to promoting the positive benefits of cannabis, but we are also actively working to change the narrative surrounding cannabis through bold designs that address current issues in the legalization process. For example, we have created designs like "Free the Weed Prisoners" and "Weed is Not a Crime" to raise awareness about the non-violent victims of the war on weed and the need for their release with changing laws.

Despite these serious designs, we have remained true to our fun and humorous roots with designs like "It's Just Weed Stupid", which emphasizes the absurdity of criminalizing a natural plant.

By creating designs that reflect the current conversation and debate surrounding cannabis, we are not only promoting positive perceptions of cannabis but also making a powerful statement about the need for social and legal change. We strive to continue to amplify and address issues within the cannabis community and hope to be a part of the positive change within the community.
